Beijing (CNN) China said Wednesday it has the right to set up an air defense zone in the hotly disputed South China Sea, a day after a landmark court ruling against Beijing's claims in the contested waters. Liu Zhenmin, China's vice foreign minister, told a press conference in Beijing that China's sovereignty over the bulk of the South China Sea wouldn't be affected by a decision by the International Court for Arbitration, which went overwhelmingly in favor of the Philippines.    Liu said imposing an air defense identification zone (ADIZ) in the region, which would require aircraft flying over the waters to first notify China , would depend on the threat level China faced. "If our security is threatened, we of course have the right to set it up," Liu said. China set up an ADIZ over the East China Sea in 2013, prompting an outcry from Japan and the United States, but th e zone has not been fully enforced. Could ruling set scene f

An Ordained African-American Minister Asks "What If Whites Strike Back?" Tyler Durden's picture by Tyler Durden Jul 12, 2016 8:20 PM 165 SHARES Twitter Facebook Reddit Authored by Mychal Massie, originally posted at Mychal-Massie.com, It would serve race mongers well to consider that even a docile old dog will bite you if you mistreat it often enough and long enough. Tangential to same is the reality of the “laws of unintended consequences.” I’m tired of seeing, reading, and hearing white people blamed for everything from black boys not being able to read to whites being privileged because of the color of their skin. If I am tired of these Americans being used as scapegoats to further the agenda of race mongers, then it is a sure bet that those being unjustly vilified are especially weary of same. This isn’t 1860 and it certainly isn’t 1955. There are no slaves in America and there are no Jim Crow laws dictating access based on skin color. Specific to that point i

MAC MILLER

Image
After an exciting first six months of 2016 which saw the likes of J. Cole, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey in the country, music lovers might have been a bit worried about what could be coming next. Everything had kind of gone quiet on the international act front (Are our concerts also converting to 90%?) However, all that changed this week when Rocking The Daisies and Superbalist In The City (The sister festivals which take place on the same weekend in Cape Town and Joburg respectively) announced that Mac Miller would be headlining both festivals. The US rapper has been popular in South Africa ever since he broke out in 2011 and the announcement got a lot of his fans excited for what he could bring to stage. Along with Mac Miller, it was also announced that EDM slayers, Knife Party (You might have heard their Swedish House Mafia remixes) will also be in town for the festival along with Foster The People. In terms of Local acts, AKA will be headlining the main st

The 'Where Is the Love?' hitmaker has admitted that whilst the 41-year-old pop beauty wasn't invovled in their recent reunion at London's Royal Albert Hall in April, he hasn't ruled out having the blonde beauty - who joined the group on their third LP 'Elephunk' in 2003 - back as the only female vocalist. "In 1995, we performed with The Black Eyed Peas without Fergie. So in my memory bank, that's The Black Eyed Peas. Of course we are going to perform with Fergie when that version of The Black Eyed Peas comes together. But until then, we are still going to perform with The Black Eyed Peas circa 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 ... I can't wait to perform with Fergie again. Is she just too busy at the moment? We all have these separate things that we're doing. I don't know what 'too busy' is." He told Q magazine. Fergie is currently working on her next solo album and recently teased the song, 'M.I.L.F.

BOY SUFFERS FROM BLINDNESS For the first six years of his life Criscent Bwambale was one of 18 million people in the developing world currently estimated to be living with preventable blindness. He was born with cataracts, able to make out only vague areas of light and dark. In Uganda, where Criscent lives with his grandmother in a mud-built house surrounded by cocoa plantations, that means almost total exclusion from normal life. He couldn't go to school or play with other children his age, and had to rely on his family for even the most basic tasks. Image copyright : LATEST NEWS INTERNATIONAL

A Canadian man has fought off a 320lb (145kg) black bear with skills he learned from years as a boxer. Rick Nelson, 61, from Ontario was walking his dog when a cub poked its head out of a shrub. Moments later, its mother charged out of the bushes and attacked. He fought off the mother bear with his bare fists, walking away with just minor scratches on his face and chest. The Canadian forestry ministry says that attacks by black bears are rare. After several swings from Mr Nelson, the bear walked away from the fight with a bloody nose. Mr Nelson said: "It just turned back around and walked away like nothing ever happened and followed the cub. So I really lucked out there." Despite his encounter, Mr Nelson told a Canadian broadcaster that he did not want people to fear black bears. The Government of Ontario says black bears usually avoid contact with humans.

A statue of the Marvel superhero Captain America is to be erected in a New York park. The company has commissioned a 13-ft (3.96m) bronze statue which will be housed in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It will be unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con later this month before being placed in the park from 10 August. A sketch of the statue, published by USA Today , shows the character holding his signature shield in the air. Marvel's senior vice-president of licensing, Paul Gitter, told the newspaper the pose was "symbolically chosen to showcase the impressive strength of Captain America and his stoic form". The figure will also bear the superhero's quote "I'm just a kid from Brooklyn" - said in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger. However, some fans have pointed out the original comic book character was actually from Manhattan's Lower East Side. In the comics, the superhero was the son of Irish immigrants - a similar background

The recent Paris attack incited a broad rise in Islamophobia in the UK. Muslims from all across the country are being targeted on the street, on public transport, at work, and at educational institutes. Tell-MAMA – a national body to monitor anti-Muslim hate crime reported a 300% rise in Islamophobic incidents since the horrific attacks in Paris on November 14, 2015. The reported anti-Muslim hate attacks range from general abuse and threats to extreme violence with victims having age range from 3 year old child to over 60. Majority of the perpetrators are middle aged white males. The anger and hate against the Muslims seem to be increasing every passing day. The most worrying element is that the prime victims of these attacks are Muslim women who are visible because of their veil and modest Islamic clothing which make them visible at the street-level. A vast majority of the cases against Muslim women are taking place on public transport, where either fellow passengers

That Professor Emily Alemika of the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, University of Jos (UNIJOS), is the first female law professor to have come out of the entire Kogi State is an act of fate. A victim of child labour who registered for primary education at 13, she was undaunted in her drive to the top. Little wonder she is an apostle of encouragement, not only to women, but all she comes across. Prof Emily is the wife of Professor Etanibi Alemika, also of UNIJOS. Emily gives all credit to her husband. Being the first female professor of law in the whole of Kogi State I did not know I was the first in my state until I started receiving congratulatory messages. In fact, it was my senior colleague that drew my attention to it and I told him I have not thought of that because I did not set a pace for myself to be there before any other person. But in all, I thank God for the grace because that also includes the old Kwara State from which Kogi was c
